•مساحت کاسه بند درونته ۷۵۰هکتار
•ظرفيت کاسه ٤٠،٥ ميليون متر مکعب آب بوده که فعلاً قسمت اعظم ان از مواد رسوبي پر گرديده است.
•ظرفيت توليد انرژي برق ١١ ميګا وات توسط ٣ پايه توربين .
•ضرورت اب هر پايه توربين ٢٥ متر مکعب اب في ثانيه.
Nangarhar Valley Development Authority
Nangarhar with having Sub- Tropical (Mediterranean) climate is suitable for growth and propagation of olive and citruses which could be planted in Nangarhar Valley.
A team of experts made a long term surveys and technical evaluation for Socio- economic feasibility, in the year 1960.
To implement the project, the following objectives were supposed to be achieved:
Constructing a hydro-power station with the capacity of 11,000 KV/hr, in Daronta.
Extending a main canal for irrigating 31,000 hectors of land, both state farms and private sector.
Bringing a vast desert under agriculture.
Growing olives in 4 state farms and processing and exporting olive oil and pickles.
Creating job for landless people in the region.
After preparation of lands, irrigation network, and appropriate plots, some (5) verities of olives were brought from Turkey, Egypt and Azerbaijan and planted in 4 state farms.

- Annual pruning.
- Using chemical fertilizers.
- Using medicines.
Processing Olives:
For processing olives, a modern factory built in an area of 27 ha in Farm No. 1.
This factory consists of 2 main parts:
- Oil extracting plants.
- Pickle processing units.
The factory is capable of processing 8,000 MT of olive of which 4,000 MT in pickle form and 4,000 MT in oil form.
The plants which processing olive in pickle form is Russian made equipments.
The oil extracting machines are Italian which have been reconditioned during last five years in Rapanilli’ factory in Italy.
It was done by a close cooperation of Italian Embassy in Kabul.
Olive fruit Production:
Out of 2169.27 ha of olive orchards only 500 ha orchards are under agricultural services. The rest is only irrigated.
Nangarhar Valley Development Authority (NVDA) is one of the largest agricultural projects in the eastern zone of the country. This project if run in its full capacity can be a significant potential for producing:
- Tree saplings.
- Olive (processed).
- Citruses.
- Agricultural crops.
- Seasonal vegetable.
- Positives impact on environment.
The neighboring provinces as Kunar, Laghman and Nooristan has almost similar climate for growing olives, so the NVDA should be supported financially as well as technically to transfer olive to where there are wild olives in the mountainous areas by grafting.
During last two decades due to budget limitation and reduction in permanent employees, the fruit production dramatically decreased.
In 1973 an amount of 2232 Tones olive were produced, while we had only around 100 tones of olive during last 5 years.
It shows that if the project is supported a tremendous amount of olive fruit will be produced.
If it is facilitated for the project to carry on the required services in the olive orchards, the product of olive will increase.
NVDA has the capacity to attract more then 6,000 person per year. If the above number is given job, it will have a direct impact on poppy cultivation in the area.
Mostly landless people employed in the poppy cultivation fields.
